One of the things at Filter Services that makes us unique to other filter changing services, is that we offer a Coil Cleaning service program for our customers. This is a seasonal service that usually runs from end of March to the end of September. Many of our customers have found that our coil cleaning services have been extremely beneficial in adding to their preventative maintenance programs in reducing energy costs and utility bills on their HVAC equipment.
Dirty condenser coils cause equipment to work harder and consume more energy, higher head pressure can also lead to premature compressor failure. According to a study performed in 2005 in the article “Study Verifies Coil Cleaning Saves Energy” written by Ross D Montgomery and by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) after the coil cleaning was performed on air handling units, the HVAC systems are cleaner, and do not provide an environment for fungal, bacterial and microbial growth in their coils, ducts and pipes.”
The US Department of Energy states that a dirty condenser coil can increase compressor energy consumption by up to 30% percent! Cleaning your coils will improve your operating efficiency, with lowering your energy costs and improving indoor air quality. Dirty coils will cause your compressor to run longer and work harder than necessary, which may shorten the life of your HVAC equipment. Not only is this a way to save money, but studies show that employees working in an environment with improved indoor air quality are more productive. Filter Services strongly encourages our customers to consider adding coil cleaning to their maintenance programs.
Filter Services uses 2 trailer mounted pressure washers, one at 1800 PSI using 15 gallons per minute and the other pressure washer with a 1500 PSI nozzle at 16 GPM. FSI uses high volume to flush out all the dirt and debri from the coils as opposed to a low volume of water, which tends to only surface clean and not reach the inside debris. We use a low pressure which is less likely to damage your coil’s fins, rather than a high pressure against the coil, which may bend or damage the fins. Another precaution that we take in order to ensure no damage, is using non-acidic soap cleaner, that doesn’t corrode coils or cause other damage that an acidic chemical cleaner can cause .
Our trained coil cleaning technicians also clean the coils from the inside out, FSI has observed that this pushes the dirt and cottonwood out of the unit, rather than cleaning the coils from the outside in, where it is pushing the dirt, debris and cottonwood back into the unit. Our technicians are also capable of splitting double and triple coils to ensure a better cleaning all around
One of the most beneficial aspects as part of our coil cleaning services, is that we take before and after pictures of our customers units. This is beneficial for us to observe, report, and present any other issues that may be going on with our customers units. It is also a way for the customers to see first hand the difference and impact that coil cleaning can have on their units.
